Summit Software Company wants to encourage development and contributions to the source code released by the ActiveScripting Organization. In order to protect the rights and interests of all developers, the source code to all ActiveScripting.org projects will be released under the Summit Public License.

In drafting this license, we began with the Netscape Public License, which we believe accomplished Netscape’s stated goal of balancing “the needs of several different constituencies: the free software development community, commercial programmers, and Netscape itself.” Like Netscape and other commerical entities who are participating in the Open Source movement, Summit’s intent with our license is to promote an development community on the Net and to release the source code under a license that supports this community, yet still allows Summit to meet its business goals. We believe the Summit Public License satisfies the Debian Free Software Guidelines, which provide a commonly accepted definition of ``free software,'' much like other free software licenses such as Mozilla or Apache.

Please read the Summit Public License carefully.

The Summit Public License, version 1.0.

This is the license under which the Beta 1 release of the ActiveScripting-Apache source code has been released.  All future ActiveScripting.org projects will be released under this license or future versions of this license.
